Exchange Rate Sources and Methodology
The AliExpress exchange rate is calculated by comparing prices for the same products in USD and local currencies, with official exchange rates used as a benchmark.
AliExpress Rate
Calculated by comparing prices for hundreds of the same AliExpress products in USD and the selected local currency.
How is the rate calculated?
The service compares prices for the same products in USD and the selected local currency. For each product, it determines a possible exchange-rate range while accounting for price rounding. The system then identifies the rate that is consistent with the largest number of products in the sample. Before publication, the result is verified again.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you pay for AliExpress purchases in Czech koruna?
No. Czech koruna (CZK) can only be used to display prices on AliExpress, while the actual payment is processed in US dollars or euros. If your card is linked to an account in CZK, your bank will automatically convert the amount into the payment currency.
Why is the amount charged to my card different from the price shown in CZK on AliExpress?
The price shown in Czech koruna on AliExpress is calculated using the platform’s own exchange rate and is not the final amount charged to your account. When you pay, the order is processed in USD or EUR, and your bank then converts that amount into CZK using its card exchange rate at the time the transaction is processed. As a result, the amount debited from your account may be higher or lower than the price shown by AliExpress. Your bank may also charge a foreign transaction fee.
Is it better to choose US dollars or euros on AliExpress if my account is in CZK?
If your card is linked to a CZK account, it generally makes sense to consider paying in US dollars first, since USD is the base currency used for AliExpress pricing, while the amount in euros is calculated separately by the platform. EUR may still work out cheaper if your bank offers a better exchange rate for euros or uses EUR as an intermediary currency for USD transactions. Having an account in Czech koruna does not automatically make either option cheaper.
Do I need a foreign-currency account to shop on AliExpress if my card is in CZK?
No. You do not need a separate foreign-currency account. Your bank will convert the funds from Czech koruna into the payment currency automatically. A foreign-currency account may only be useful if you already hold funds in USD or EUR and your bank’s terms make paying directly in that currency more cost-effective.
How can I avoid double currency conversion when paying from a CZK account?
Keep the currency you selected on AliExpress throughout the payment process. If you chose USD or EUR, avoid any additional conversion offered by the payment service. Otherwise, the payment may go through two consecutive currency conversions instead of one.
Why was my refund in CZK lower than the amount originally charged?
The original purchase and the refund are two separate foreign-currency transactions. If the order was paid in US dollars or euros from a CZK account, your bank converted the original payment into Czech koruna and then converted the refund again using the exchange rate applicable when the refund was credited. If the rate moved against you in the meantime, or your bank applied a different card exchange rate or fee, the refunded amount in CZK may be lower than the original amount debited.
