USD โ TRY Discussion on AliExpress
Exchange Rate Sources and Methodology
The AliExpress exchange rate is calculated by comparing prices for the same products in USD and local currencies, with official exchange rates used as a benchmark.
AliExpress Rate
Calculated by comparing prices for hundreds of the same AliExpress products in USD and the selected local currency.
How is the rate calculated?
The service compares prices for the same products in USD and the selected local currency. For each product, it determines a possible exchange-rate range while accounting for price rounding. The system then identifies the rate that is consistent with the largest number of products in the sample. Before publication, the result is verified again.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you pay in Turkish lira on AliExpress?
Yes. AliExpress supports Turkish lira (TRY) for both displaying prices and paying for orders. If your final order total is shown in TRY, the payment will be processed in that currency. You can also choose US dollars or euros. Before confirming your purchase, check the currency of the final order total.
Why did my bank charge more in TRY than the final order total shown on AliExpress?
The difference may be due to a foreign transaction fee or currency conversion. Some banks process international payments through an intermediary currency, even when AliExpress charges you in TRY. In some cases, your bank may temporarily hold more than the order amount and release the excess once the payment is finalized. Check your bank statement for the amount charged, transaction currency, and any fees. If the amounts still don't match, contact your bank for an explanation.
Is it cheaper to pay in US dollars or euros on AliExpress if your account is in Turkish lira?
Paying in US dollars (USD) may be cheaper. Some Turkish banks, including Garanti BBVA and Akbank, may convert payments in euros into dollars before converting them into lira. Paying in USD may help you avoid this extra conversion. However, dollars are not always cheaper. Compare the final AliExpress prices in both currencies using your bank's exchange rates for card transactions, including any fees. Choose whichever option results in a lower charge in TRY.
Why does my bank charge me in lira even though I have a US dollar account linked to my card?
Having a US dollar account does not mean your card will automatically use it for purchases. If your debit card is linked to a lira account or your credit card's statement currency is TRY, your bank may convert even a USD payment on AliExpress into lira. To avoid unnecessary conversion, check which account your debit card draws from or, if your bank allows it, choose USD as your credit card's statement currency. If the AliExpress payment itself is in TRY, having a dollar account will not make it a USD transaction.
What should I do if AliExpress declined my payment but my card was charged?
Don't rush to pay for the order again. First, check your order status on AliExpress and ask your bank whether the money has actually been charged or is only temporarily on hold. If it's a temporary hold, the bank will usually release the funds automatically. If the payment has gone through but the order still shows as unpaid, contact AliExpress customer support with proof of payment. If the issue remains unresolved, dispute the charge with your bank.
Why did I get back less in Turkish lira than I paid after cancelling an AliExpress order?
The original payment and the refund are two separate banking transactions that may be processed on different days. If you paid in US dollars or euros from a lira-denominated account, your bank may apply different exchange rates to the payment and the refund. As a result, you could receive either less or more in TRY than you originally paid. Fees charged on the original payment may also be non-refundable. If both the payment and the full refund were processed directly in TRY without any currency conversion, there should be no exchange rate difference.
